1995

Günther Mull studied human biology at the University of Hamburg, where he began researching fingerprints in 1980. From 1984, he was responsible for the automation of fingerprint and palmprint evaluations as part of a research project at the Hamburg Institute of Human Biology and worked until 1990 as a lecturer in applied statistics. After several years as head of the Institute of Dermatoglyphics, he founded DERMALOG Identification Systems GmbH in 1995 in Hamburg. The company specializes in the development of Automated Fingerprint Identification Systems (AFIS) and fingerprint biometrics for documents and national ID projects. DERMALOG technology is used today in more than 250 large-scale installations around the world.

1998

In cooperation with Montreal Informatica, DERMALOG implemented the countries first Automated Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS) as part of an ID card project in the state of Rio de Janeiro. It was designed to ensure the reliable identification of the state’s residents. Millions of citizens have been issued unique, secure biometric ID cards. The system also supports various government authorities in verifying the identity of the citizens and is still in use today.

2000

DERMALOG implements a microprocessor card (chip or Smart card) as national identity card in Brunei - the first of its kind. The fingerprints of the card owners were stored on the contact chip. The actual identity can be proven and or verified anywhere through the use of the biometric information saved on the document. In order to ensure the uniqueness of the identity the use of an AFIS (Automated Fingerprint Identification System) is necessary.

2007

German Residents Registration Offices put DERMALOGs highly efficient and accurate Fingerprint Scanner ZF1 into operation. The majority of the around 19,000 fingerprint scanners for the German ePassport system were supplied by the Hamburg-based company. Digitalized prints of both index fingers are stored for identification purposes in German ePassports in addition to a digital photograph. The Bundesdruckerei GmbH, Berlin, awarded a contract to DERMALOG to supply the hardware.

2010

DERMALOG obtains a major contract for a large-scale installation in Cambodia. National ePassports and ID cards for a population of over 15 million people are currently enrolled and printed. Cambodias new passports and national ID cards have some of the highest and most advanced security features in the world today. This represents a major progress for Cambodia.

2012

Bundesdruckerei invests in biometrics specialist Dermalog. "Bundesdruckerei is a strong partner with many years of experience. Together, we are in a position to offer and market trailblazing one-stop solutions to protect identities. We are extremely pleased about our new shareholder,” explained Günther Mull, founder and CEO of Dermalog. Bundesdruckerei GmbH, Berlin, acquires a 22.43 % share in DERMALOG whose solutions can be smoothly integrated in its ID system portfolio. In the past, Bundesdruckerei and DERMALOG have cooperated successfully.

2013

DERMALOG embarks on a new era of biometrics by winning a 50-million-dollar contract. The world’s largest biometric installation for banks has been completed for 22 banks and the central bank in Nigeria. The biometrics innovation leader installs a nationwide system to identify all bank customers by fingerprint. More than 24 million bank customers have been registered until today. As a result, the Nigerian financial system is becoming one of the most modern and secure in the world.

2015

DERMALOG develops new biometric passports for the Maldives. The German biometrics innovation leader has supplied the new biometric passports and IT system for registration and personalization of electronic passports to the Republic of Maldives. DERMALOG also supplied the island state’s immigration services with a new border control system, including automatic gates and a high-speed AFIS.

2016

The world’s fastest and most accurate fingerprint matching is offered by the “DERMALOG Next Generation AFIS”: 914.959.533 fingerprint matches per second can be done on a single blade - WORLD RECORD. The renowned SGS-TÜV Saar has acknowledged that the DERMALOG AFIS’ combination of speed and accuracy is unique throughout the world.
